LucasArts upon closure gives out source code of two popular Star Wars games

Star Wars 1313

Upon it’s closure yesterday, LucasArts has given out the source code of two popular games in the Star Wars franchise. Those games are “Jedi Outcast” and “Jedi Academy”. The source code is being released for free to anyone who wis hes to download it. It can be found here:

Jedi Outcast: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jedioutcast/

Jedi Academy: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jediacademy/

Jedi OutcastThe source code has been freely released to the public, but under a GNU GPLv2 license.

Also, in continuation to yesterday’s post, I edited it to say that in the deal was also LucasFilm as a whole. I didn’t realize that at first, and that it was $4B for Lucasfilm and all branches. In addition, LucasArts is not 100% gone forever – just they are gone as a studio. Disney will continue using it, but as a liscence name. If they release a Star Wars game, they would license it as LucasArts. Furthermore on the development of Star Wars 1313, which has recently been cancelled as it was a LucasArts production, a third party person gave their opinion on the future of the game to popular gaming news site Kotaku. The person said that they felt that the chance that the game could be continued on at another company was very small.

Will we ever see anything more of the classic LucasArts games, like another remaster of something? Or, will Disney throw the classic game licenses to the side of the table? I hope not. A Lego Star Wars remastered collection would be nice. Very nice.
