Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod development halted indefinitely; JC2-MP bug fixes in future

Yesterday, Cameron “Trix” Foote of the JC-MP team responsible for the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod and previously upcoming Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod announced in a post on their website that development of their Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod would be halted indefinitely.

Hey everyone,

This post has been a long time coming. We’ve been putting off writing it for a while for a variety of reasons, but the most important is, has, and will always be, our desire to do right by our fans.

It is on this note that we’re regretfully announcing the indefinite halt of JC3-MP development. We know you’ve been waiting for news over this past year – your desire to play it is matched by our desire to make it – but there’s a good reason.

Good and bad news often come in pairs, and this case is no exception; several months ago, I (Trix) was approached with an offer I couldn’t refuse: to join Avalanche Studios Sweden as a developer so that I could work on projects present and future. As part of Avalanche, I’ll be able to bring many of the things you know and love from JC2-MP into future Avalanche experiences, while reaching heights that a mere mod couldn’t facilitate. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, neither I or the rest of the team can actively pursue development on JC3-MP; our lives are just too busy to allow for it right now.

We will still be maintaining JC2-MP where appropriate – while we’re not actively adding new features, we will fix bugs, maintain stability, and ensure that JC2-MP remains a quality experience for players present and future. We’re still searching for solutions to our most prevalent issues (including AMD compatibility without workarounds); hopefully, we’ll be able to make headway in the future.

As a closing note, we’d like to thank our loyal fanbase for all the support over the years. While we know we haven’t always been the most communicative, our hearts have always been behind our mod(s) and their players. All of us remember the many wonderful moments we had in the beta tests and joining random servers well after release; on behalf of the team, thank you to all of the players, server owners, scripters, and you for everything. We couldn’t have done any of it without your ongoing support.

And hey, you never know what might happen in the future – we might see you down the line in another adventure :)

The JC-MP team put in a lot of work to reverse engineer Avalanche’s games and add multiplayer support to them. They have immense development skills and it is no surprise Avalanche would want Trix, the lead developer, and his talent as part of their official team. Avalanche worked with the JC-MP team to produce the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod (of which we run a server for). Although Avalanche didn’t directly work on it as such, they helped the JC-MP team get the mod on Steam to download and gave them their support. With Trix, the lead developer, working at Avalanche and not having time to work on the new mod, and the rest of the team also finding themselves too busy, they had two choices: #1, leave their fans wondering what happened and never say anything, or #2, be honest and do right by the fans by telling the truth.

Just Cause 2 Multiplayer brought back interest to the Just Cause series. In 2015, Just Cause 3 was released for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 with no multiplayer. It was a rocky launch, but many people were looking forward to the multiplayer mod that would inevitably come from the JC-MP team – or so they thought.

A team called Nanos, responsible for GTA-MP, Mafia 2 Multiplayer, and some other multiplayer projects announced their own version, “nanos JC3:MP”, first. The JC-MP team then announced their Just Cause 3 Multiplayer. The JC-MP team released a video of their progress so far, but hadn’t updated their site in months about it. Nanos does development logs each week to show their progress. Nanos are still developing their mod and have no plans to quit any time soon, but the original JC-MP team’s mod is no longer being developed.

The JC-MP team confirmed that JC2-MP will be receiving support still, with plans for bug fixes and patches for things like the AMD Crimson driver issue that plagues many AMD users and is only fixed by a workaround.

While I personally am sad to see the JC-MP team’s Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod have its development halted, fans will still get a Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod from Nanos. Again, the JC-MP team will still maintain their Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod and keep it playable though they will not be actively adding new features. We here at Gaveroid.com wish the JC-MP team the best in their future endeavors. Trix, we’ll all be waiting to see your name when the credits roll in a future Avalanche game! Here’s to hoping that nanos JC3-MP will live up to JC2-MP’s set standards, and that JC2-MP’s community will stick around. Only time will tell.

NVIDIA reveals GTX 1080, GTX 1070; both faster than Titan X, and more

by on May.06, 2016, under Games, General, PC

Moments ago, American technology company NVIDIA, known best for their graphics processing units (GPUs) and system-on-a-chip (SoC) products, revealed the latest pro1080 image for articleducts in their new lineup of GeForce graphics cards based on their recent Pascal architecture, the 1000 series. Over 40,000 people tuned into the company’s Twitch channel to watch the stream live from DreamHack. So far, NVIDIA has only revealed Pascal-based cards in the Tesla lineup – and these are purely for calculations and rendering and do not have a video output.

Nvidia has announced the GTX 1080, and showed gameplay of new games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Tom Clancy’s The Division running at max settings, over 60 frames per second; and then they let through that it was running on the GTX 1080. Nvidia has called Pascal the largest processor architecture project “in the history of humanity”, claiming it took “7 years”, “thousands of people”, and $7 billion USD in R&D to create – they said that with that money they’re “pretty sure you could go to Mars.” The 16 nanometer manufacturing process will help for low-latency, high-performance gaming and more. They claim that a single GTX 1080 is faster than two 980 SLIs, and twice the performance and three times the energy efficiency of a single Titan X, saying that it’s “almost irresponsible amounts of performance.” They showed a real-time demonstration of the GTX 1080, running at 2.1 GHz on air cooling, keeping a 65-67 degrees Celsius. It has 8GB of G5x VRAM, 9 teraflops, and will cost $599 for the standard edition and $699 for the NVIDIA-designed Founders’ Edition. It will be available May 27th.

The GTX 1070 was also announced, with 8GB of G5 memory, 6.5 teraflops, $379 MSRP and $449 for the Founders’ Edition; also faster than a GTX Titan X.

They also announced Ansel, an advanced screenshotting utility that gives the user a free camera, 3D integration, and filters, all at the driver level for their screenshotting pleasure. They also give you the ability to use a cell phone and something like Google Cardboard for a cheap, low-cost virtual reality experience.

Futhermore, they announced some additions to their VRWorks API, including realistic water, ball-bouncing, falling, and other types of physics assisted by Nvidia PhysX and integrated with your haptic feedback controller. They also will be adding path traced audio, with advanced acoustic models – the world’s first real-time physics-based acoustics engine of this type. Usually, audio is directional / positional, but the environment will now be affected by the sound waves as they would realistically. They have found a way to calculate this efficiently, in real-time, on Nvidia GPUs.

To showcase these technologies, NVIDIA has created the NVIDIA VR FUNHOUSE, which will be available on Steam and open-source for users to tinker with and improve.

Furthermore, Simultaneous Multi-Display allows 16 viewpoints into the 3D world for a wide variety of display support, and improved Nvidia Surround. Previously, 3 cards would be needed for triple-monitor Surround without the side monitors being warped, but the new Pascal architecture GPUs can achieve this with a single GPU. Stereo 3D rendering is also possible in a single pass, improving performance for virtual reality solutions.

If you were looking at purchasing a GTX 970, 980, 980ti, or Titan X any time soon at full price, hold off; the wait will be worth it.
