Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod development halted indefinitely; JC2-MP bug fixes in future
by Gaveroid on Jul.11, 2016, under Games, General, JC2-MP, PC
Yesterday, Cameron “Trix” Foote of the JC-MP team responsible for the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod and previously upcoming Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod announced in a post on their website that development of their Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod would be halted indefinitely.
This post has been a long time coming. We’ve been putting off writing it for a while for a variety of reasons, but the most important is, has, and will always be, our desire to do right by our fans.
It is on this note that we’re regretfully announcing the indefinite halt of JC3-MP development. We know you’ve been waiting for news over this past year – your desire to play it is matched by our desire to make it – but there’s a good reason.
Good and bad news often come in pairs, and this case is no exception; several months ago, I (Trix) was approached with an offer I couldn’t refuse: to join Avalanche Studios Sweden as a developer so that I could work on projects present and future. As part of Avalanche, I’ll be able to bring many of the things you know and love from JC2-MP into future Avalanche experiences, while reaching heights that a mere mod couldn’t facilitate. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, neither I or the rest of the team can actively pursue development on JC3-MP; our lives are just too busy to allow for it right now.
We will still be maintaining JC2-MP where appropriate – while we’re not actively adding new features, we will fix bugs, maintain stability, and ensure that JC2-MP remains a quality experience for players present and future. We’re still searching for solutions to our most prevalent issues (including AMD compatibility without workarounds); hopefully, we’ll be able to make headway in the future.
As a closing note, we’d like to thank our loyal fanbase for all the support over the years. While we know we haven’t always been the most communicative, our hearts have always been behind our mod(s) and their players. All of us remember the many wonderful moments we had in the beta tests and joining random servers well after release; on behalf of the team, thank you to all of the players, server owners, scripters, and you for everything. We couldn’t have done any of it without your ongoing support.
And hey, you never know what might happen in the future – we might see you down the line in another adventure

The JC-MP team put in a lot of work to reverse engineer Avalanche’s games and add multiplayer support to them. They have immense development skills and it is no surprise Avalanche would want Trix, the lead developer, and his talent as part of their official team. Avalanche worked with the JC-MP team to produce the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod (of which we run a server for). Although Avalanche didn’t directly work on it as such, they helped the JC-MP team get the mod on Steam to download and gave them their support. With Trix, the lead developer, working at Avalanche and not having time to work on the new mod, and the rest of the team also finding themselves too busy, they had two choices: #1, leave their fans wondering what happened and never say anything, or #2, be honest and do right by the fans by telling the truth.
Just Cause 2 Multiplayer brought back interest to the Just Cause series. In 2015, Just Cause 3 was released for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 with no multiplayer. It was a rocky launch, but many people were looking forward to the multiplayer mod that would inevitably come from the JC-MP team – or so they thought.
A team called Nanos, responsible for GTA-MP, Mafia 2 Multiplayer, and some other multiplayer projects announced their own version, “nanos JC3:MP”, first. The JC-MP team then announced their Just Cause 3 Multiplayer. The JC-MP team released a video of their progress so far, but hadn’t updated their site in months about it. Nanos does development logs each week to show their progress. Nanos are still developing their mod and have no plans to quit any time soon, but the original JC-MP team’s mod is no longer being developed.
The JC-MP team confirmed that JC2-MP will be receiving support still, with plans for bug fixes and patches for things like the AMD Crimson driver issue that plagues many AMD users and is only fixed by a workaround.
While I personally am sad to see the JC-MP team’s Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod have its development halted, fans will still get a Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod from Nanos. Again, the JC-MP team will still maintain their Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod and keep it playable though they will not be actively adding new features. We here at Gaveroid.com wish the JC-MP team the best in their future endeavors. Trix, we’ll all be waiting to see your name when the credits roll in a future Avalanche game! Here’s to hoping that nanos JC3-MP will live up to JC2-MP’s set standards, and that JC2-MP’s community will stick around. Only time will tell.
